Your role

As a Process Automation Engineer at Impala Terminals Rotterdam, you will be responsible for the efficient planning and scheduling of Process Automation activities, ensuring minimal risk and downtime for the terminal. You will analyze problems, define scopes and work packages, and provide expert advice on spare parts and cost estimates. Collaborating with contractors, you will oversee the execution of activities while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and safety standards.

Beyond maintenance planning, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining local process automation expertise. Supporting the Maintenance Discipline Lead E&I, you will contribute to defining the yearly Opex and Capex budget for the discipline. By sharing your knowledge and fostering best practices, you will help drive continuous improvement within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical input to Projects on Process Automation;

  • Support Projects during commissioning and hand over to Operations;

  • Align with third parties to create automation work packages and review the work packages on scope, quality and efficiency;

  • Detailed planning of work orders by scoping work, identifying required spare parts, skills and create cost estimates;

  • Review disciple related work permits by third parties on quality, including requesting Lock out Tag Out for mechanical and electrical disciplines;

  • Troubleshooting and solve Process Automation related issues;

  • Responsible for checking adherence to the training / education related to Process Automation discipline;

  • Work closely with Operations, E&I & customer service and procurement for efficient scheduling of activities.

Job requirements

About you:

  • Bachelor degree in a relevant technical Engineering discipline such as Electrical or Industrial Automation Engineering;

  • 5 - 7 year experience in process automation in the industry, preferably in Oil & Gas or liquid tank storage;

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate with diverse teams.

  • Strong knowledge of DCS systems;

  • Preferably have experience with Siemens PCS 7 and SIMATIC Route Control;

  • Experience with industrial networks. Preferably Profinet, Profibus and Modbus;

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex automation & E&I issues.
